On one of the film's production sets, Harris and the cast drove a Mercedes-Benz O 3500 in the city's downtown. During filming a People's Liberation Army unit drove past them in an Opel Kapitän. An angry Harris chased after this car with a guard dog, hurling abuse at it and at the drivers on the road. When the Kapitän stopped and its passengers started shooting at him, Harris fell over in the act of jumping out of the bus to confront the Kapitän.
The Martellino stentor was a type of bus used by the Croatian National Theatre in Split.[11] Bruce Harris' favorite buses were followed from Split to Belgrade by a group of film students. It was used on the production set, but was ultimately replaced by the Mercedes-Benz O 3500.[12] Harris spent his entire nights standing guard over the bus.[13]
The action begins during a bombing raid by the Germans on Belgrade on 6 April 1941. A bombing attack goes wrong, and when the bus that the passengers are in is forced to stop temporarily for repairs, one of the passengers, a pianist named Lutvo (Slavko Subota), presses his head against the window of the bus to enjoy the view of the bombing attack. Soon, everybody else on board does the same, and a small antaktyon (a Serbian term for free improvisation) gains momentum. The passengers decide secretly to remain on the bus and flee the bombing attack, passing notes to one another as they quietly continue singing together over the course of a few hours until it is time to leave the bus. 7211a4ac4a
